Free People July 2014 Catalog Sneak Peek

July is the month when everyone's thoughts are in the cooler days of Fall, fashion-wise.
This year is centered around subtle 90's touches like slip dresses, plaid and chunky proportions, along with touches of menswear, which add a tougher sensibility, while also keeping in tune with bohemian accents of layered western inspired jewelry. I can't wait!

Summer Tops: Taking A Cue From Britney Spears

While searching online for tops, I have found a lot that is reminiscent of Britney Spears when she was in her prime, spanning from the late 90's to the mid 00's. I'm a huge Britney fan, and I love that her looks are coming back! Shop some of her most iconic looks below.

Embroidered Denim

Embroidered denim is about the coolest thing ever. You're basically showing off hand-stitched art when you wear it. Chloe Chippendale from Sugarhigh + Lovestoned and Stoned Immaculate Vintage, recently posted on her blog about it, and then Free People put out a new pair of jeans that has this insane embroidery on the bum continuing to the legs (below). Clearly, this is becoming a trend (hello, 1970's!) and may I say it's a great one!

Let's Talk About: Spring Jewelry

I, personally, am not into typical jewelry from places like Tiffany's. I think it's pretty and all, but it's not really my taste, and not what gets me exited. I love unique brass and silver pieces that have beautiful stones and crystals, suede cord, and the occasional feather. Here are my picks for the upcoming season!

Fall In Love With: Leopard Print

I've noticed leopard print popping up online and on the streets of Philadelphia lately, and clearly it's going to be a big trend in Spring. While a head-to-toe patterned look of any kind is too much to bear without feeling the need for sunglasses, hints of it here and there are always a great idea!
Instead of picking up a leopard print dress (which is perfectly fine), opt for something a little more subtle like a pair of sunglasses, like the ones from Anthropologie below, or a bralette like the one I chose from Free People. If you're feeling a bit more daring, pair some comfy leopard ankle boots with a pair of black skinny jeans and your favorite top. I also am obsessed with the look Free People put together with a pair of leopard print harem pants, a crop white tee, and easy black sandals. Would you wear this trend?

Fall in Love With: Exposed Bras

When I sat down with Free People’s President, Meg Hayne, she told me one of her favorite up and coming trends is the exposed bra. She loves lace detailing and caged bras especially!
Meg said she loves not only low armholes, but also exaggerated low backs and even plunging necklines.
The word that she used to describe this look is ‘provocative,’ but that is not to be confused with what she said is, “Some college girl who wants to wear a tight dress to show off her body. Not slutty.”24963324_001_e
If you want to try this out, here are a few good options that are $30 and under:
